Britain Braces For Loftmas Day as Festive Clutter Hits New Highs

With 23% calling their loft too cramped or inaccessible, Loftmas Day highlights a growing home-storage problem.

Loftmas Day is fast becoming as iconic as decorating the tree – the annual moment we climb into the attic to bring Christmas down. But for many households, it’s also when the clutter, dust and awkward storage problems of the year finally catch up with them.

Our latest research1 highlights why. More than 57% of Brits store their Christmas decorations in the loft, yet many homes are struggling to use the space properly. Despite having 30–40m² overhead in a typical UK property, poor access and bare joists mean families can’t make the most of it, leading to clutter spilling into living areas and unnecessary festive stress.

Safety plays a part too. The average Brit enters their loft six times a year, but many say the experience feels cramped, dusty or unsafe. Loftmas shouldn’t be a balancing act on beams or a battle with heavy boxes.

That’s where raised loft boarding makes all the difference. By creating a solid, walkable platform above your insulation, LoftZone’s system unlocks more usable storage, keeps insulation performing properly and turns an awkward space into somewhere safe, practical and easy to access — especially at Christmas.

“As families gear up for Loftmas Day, we want the experience to feel organised rather than overwhelming,” says Dave Raval, CEO of LoftZone. “The right boarding transforms the loft from a stressful space into one of the most useful areas in the home.”

With 70% of UK households storing items directly on insulation – a mistake that can halve its efficiency – the case for smarter, safer loft usage has never been clearer. The financial case to use one is compelling too. A usable loft storage space can measurably enhance appeal and add around £10,0002 to a property’s value, particularly in urban markets where every square metre counts.

With over 150,000 lofts upgraded and a network of TrustMark-approved installers, LoftZone helps households reclaim the space above their heads — so Loftmas Day becomes a smooth start to the season, not a chaotic one.
