3. Check for compression. Insulation squashed under boards or stored boxes loses up to half its effectiveness. Flattened insulation cannot trap air, and trapping air is the whole point.
4. Inspect for moisture. Run your torch across the roofing felt, timbers and insulation surface. Note any staining, mold or dampness.
5. Test the ventilation. Look for clear airflow paths at the eaves. Blocked vents trap moisture and feed condensation problems.
6. Check the loft hatch. A poorly fitted or uninsulated hatch leaks heat all winter. Draught strips and a hatch insulation panel are cheap fixes.
