need loft insulation

Why Do I Need Loft Insulation?

Without loft insulation, up to a quarter of the heat in your home can be lost through the roof. Costing you more in energy bills to keep your home warm. Insulating your loft is a simple and effective way to reduce your heating costs and keep warmth in your home.

The more insulated your home is, the more efficient your home is at heating and staying warm. Also, with the reduction of energy needed to heat your home, you are reducing your home’s CO2 emissions and improving your home’s energy performance.

What is loft insulation?

Loft insulation is a material that is placed in your loft to slow down the transfer of heat between your home and the outside. It helps to keep your house warm in the winter and cooler in the summer too.

The government recommends a depth of 270mm of loft insulation between and above the joists to help reduce heating costs and also improve your home’s energy performance rating.

Investing in loft insulation is efficient as it can last for 40 years, so it can pay for itself in the money you save on energy bills many times over.

What are the benefits?

– Improve your home’s energy efficiency

– Reduce your carbon footprint

– Reduce your energy bills

– Improve your home’s value, as a result of improving your home’s Energy Performance Certificate

How much money can I save on my bills?

Figures from the Energy Saving Trust show that you can save significant amounts on your heating bills and CO2 emissions a year. Insulating an uninsulated loft with the recommended depth of 270mm loft insulation can save you:

But I want to use my loft for storage space

If you want to use your loft for storage, as well as fit the recommended depth of 270mm of loft insulation, you need to create a raised loft floor. This is where the LoftZone’s StoreFloor was created to provide a raised loft floor over the recommended 270mm of insulation. It provides sufficient airflow and allowing you to protect your insulation and have a safe storage area in your loft.

Our award-winning, fully patented loft boarding system is the only BBA-approved raised loft boarding system that saves money, helps the environment and increases safety. Providing extra storage that won’t invalidate an NHBC new build house warranty as well.

You should not squash your insulation with your stored items, as this can prevent the insulation from working effectively and can also lead to damp problems. Learn about protecting your insulation.
